Virtual communication using facial expression cloning
Atul | Jun 2 2009

In a couple years from now we would have characters on our PC that speak to us. These characters wouldn’t be animated but real people whose face and the expressions would be brought into use via cloning through a computer. All that is required to make this possible is a CGI head that interprets facial expressions and mannerisms and relays them to a computer which then clones them to create virtual faces. As per the current state of development of this technology, there are non-verbal cues instead of spoken words and all this is done to enhance the meaning of what we are saying, simultaneously giving a clue about our emotional status. Star Trek buffs would remember Landru (Video after the jump) from The Return of the Archons and with this novelty, many Landrus’ are actually entering the world of reality.
